Inspecting Your Wiper Blades

*VERY EASY*

Your windshield wiper blades should be inspected every month according to the following procedure:

  1. Park the vehicle on level ground with the engine OFF, the parking brake engaged, and the transmission in PARK (for automatic) or REVERSE (for manual).
  2. Turn the ignition key to "ACC" then activate wipers. Turn off the ignition key when the wiper blades reach a vertical position.
  3. Lift the wiper blades slightly from the windshield surface and clean them with a damp cloth. Feel the rubber blade; it should be pliable and smooth. The rubber blade will harden, deteriorate and crack after six months, without use, just from exposure to sunlight or smog. Frequent use will wear away the blade edge. If the blades streak clean glass and do not trace a smooth, complete arc across the windshield, replace them.
  4. Use a rag dampened with washer fluid to clean road grime, dirt and debris from the wiper blades.
